Zodiac, which extends 9° on either side of the ecliptic being sun's apparent annual path, is a belt around the sky containing twelve astrological signs. In astrology, an event such as a birth could be affected by one's surroundings like their zodiacal positions of the Sun, the Moon and the planets at the time of birth. The orbits of the naked-eye planets and the Moon also lay within the zodiac.
The Babylonians divided the zodiac into 12 astrological signs of 30°, the division is believed to have been made around 500 BCE. A Long with the human history, the Babylonian signs Gemini, Cancer, and Libra are also used today. The ancient Greeks derived the term “circle of animals” to explain these constellations which represented as animals. On the other hand, the Chinese zodiac system contains a cycle of animals, but differs from the Greek zodiac due to each of the Chinese symbolic animals representing one year in a cycle of twelve years instead of months. The order is based off a great race myth rather than based off constellations.
Due to something known as precession of the equinoxes - essentially a wobble of the Earth’s axis every 26000 years - the constellations have moved to the east and the z dates now match to their corresponding seasons.
